This weekend has quite an event line-up! The San Diego International Kids’ Film Festival and the first ever San Diego Festival of Books are cultural outings you don’t want to miss. You can also spin your wheels at Skate for the Stars or Bike the Bay and see what it’s like to pilot a plane at Open Cockpit Days. Read on for the details.


San Diego International Kids’ Film Festival
The San Diego International Kids Film Festival will screen 150+ films from 30+ countries and host its exclusive golf with star tournament in The Summerly Links in Lake Elsinore. Complete with fabulous red carpet, massive media coverage, unforgettable fashion presentation, special speakers and celebrity guests. One of the only multicultural events for families with kids. Barona Cultural Center & Museum’s Keyip! Kechuw! (listen! make!) Reading Program
The Barona Cultural Center & Museum invites San Diego youngsters to participate in its 2nd annual Keyip! Kechuw! (Listen! Make!), a free monthly storytime and craft program designed to inspire young children to read. This program is geared toward children in grades K-2 and will feature a unique cultural story, with a hands-on craft activity to follow. Sat. Event details.


Open Cockpit Days at Flying Leatherneck Aviation Museum
Come sit in the cockpit of a plane like a real pilot! The Flying Leatherneck Aviation Museum has 27 vintage aircraft on display as well as hundreds of artifacts from World War I to present day. 4th Annual Imperial Ave. Street Festival
Head to Imperial Ave. for the fourth annual Imperial Avenue Street Festival celebrating the rich history, culture and arts of the Greater Logan Heights community. The Festival will take place on Imperial Avenue between 28th and 30th and between L Street and Commercial Avenue. Come out and experience the flavors of Imperial Avenue, enjoy a variety of fun family programming, browse the offerings of local artists and crafts, enjoy gourmet food and beverages, craft beer garden and groove to an amazing lineup of live performers, including Nathan East, American jazz, R&B and rock bass player and vocalist! Free Tinkergarten Trial
At Tinkergarten, families meet outdoors to connect and learn through play. In this free trial, Tinkergarten Leader, Megan Loubert, will facilitate an expert-designed play scenario, allowing children of various ages and needs to explore, problem solve, communicate, collaborate and create together. Boulder Creek Habitat Restoration
Come enjoy the great outdoors and help the San Diego River Park Foundation restore an oak woodland along a free-flowing mountain stream. Volunteers will help create habitat for wildlife and keep water clean by removing invasive plants, watering native plants and more! This is a great opportunity to give back by getting your hands dirty, learning about local ecology and habitat restoration science, looking for wildlife and spending time in nature. Sat. Skate for the Stars
Come visit the Star Legacy Foundation – San Diego Chapter at their inaugural event for a fun filled morning of Skate for the Stars! There will be music and skating games coordinated by the DJ, a silent auction and a reading of the names of babies people are skating in memory of. Registration includes open skating, shoes, tote bag and snacks for all. Bike the Bay
Ride the bridge, Bike the Bay! Cruise around the San Diego Bay and enjoy your only opportunity to ride across the San Diego Coronado Bay Bridge. Proceeds from the Bike the Bay ride will benefit the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition(SDCBC), a non-profit organization dedicated to making bicycling better in San Diego. Sun. Event details.

San Diego Festival of Books
The San Diego Festival of Books is a celebration of reading and writing and a place where readers and authors can connect to share stories, ideas and enthusiasm for the traditions, culture and values of the written word.
The San Diego Union-Tribune is proud to announce this inaugural Festival which will feature over 40 local published authors participating in discussions and book signings. There will also be live entertainment, merchant vendors, a dedicated Children’s Pavilion and a variety of other programs. This first year’s event will be a great kick-off for a more robust event in years to come. Admission to the Festival of Books is free. Panel discussions are $3 each. $1 will be donated to the San Diego Council on Literacy for each ticket sold. Sat. Event details.
