There’s nothing like being a kid in the summertime. Sunny days, ice cream, and endless fun activities to experience. Luckily for your little San Diegans, summertime just got a lot more awesome. We’ve dug up a ton of kid-friendly fun for the weekend that includes a Friday Night Bike Race, an outdoor funky jazz concert, a day of family gardening and a Sound of Music sing-along. Ah, to be a kid again!
Let your kiddos use their imagination and their hands in this fun-filled building experience. Your little ones will use up to 15,000 wooden KEVA (Knowledge – Exploration – Visual Arts) planks to build structures from skyscrapers to suspension bridges. Friday Night Bike Racing
Just because the Tour de France is over doesn’t mean you have to wait a whole year for some exciting cycling action. The San Diego Velodrome hosts cyclists of all skill levels as they compete in fast-paced track racing. So bring out your cowbells and cheer for the riders as they pedal towards victory. Jazz in the Parks
TGIF!! Head on over Calavera Community Park to get your little ones grooving to some funky jazz. This week’s free concert features Big Sam’s Funky Nation. Learn the art of discovering signs left behind by forest critters during two fun-filled hours of “dirt time.” Learn to identify tracks, examine bedlays, and more on this wilderness exploration. Be sure to wear long pants as you will be kneeling down to observe the signs left behind by various animals. Your little ones will love this hands-on experience! Meet in front of the Visitor Center. This family-friendly workshop focuses “on teaching children about gardening, composting, food webs, nutrition, and nutrient cycling.” Not only is it a great opportunity to get your kids excited about gardening, but it also teaches them the importance of sustainability and eco-farming. The Sound of Music Sing-a-Long
Sing to your heart’s content with the Patio Playhouse actors as they lead families in a sing-a-long of the most memorable songs from the famed movie. Released in 1965, the film won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture. This is one performance of The Sound of Music that everyone will love. Be sure to call 760-746-6669 for your reservations. Family Art Day: Hidden Treasures
There’s treasure everywhere! Learn how to make your own works of art using ordinary, everyday item such as wood, plastic, metal.
