Merry Christmas! Do you feel like December just flew by? If so, you’re not alone! Slow down and enjoy the holiday weekend with your family. Whether you’re gathered with 50 loved ones or keeping it low key, it’s a very special time of year. Sometimes it’s nice to get out of the house for a bit during the excitement. Good news! There are some holiday weekend happenings around San Diego on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. From SeaWorld’s Christmas celebration to a giant gingerbread village in North County to snow in South Bay, we have ideas!

San Diego

SeaWorld Christmas Celebration
If you have free time on Christmas Eve, swing by SeaWorld for a big holiday celebration. You can make a snow angel at SnowWorld, watch Shamu’s Christmas show, check out Santa’s Village and more! Sat, 10:00 am. SeaWorld San Diego. Included with park admission. All ages. Event Details.

Christmas Day Concert
After the gifts are all opened and the crazed fun of the morning has slowed down, head over to Balboa Park for a free Christmas Day Concert. Remain in the spirit of the holiday and bring a donation for St. Vincent de Paul Villages if you’re able. Sun, 2:00 pm. Spreckels Organ Pavilion. Free. All ages. Event Details.

North County

Gingerbread Mountain Village
Don’t miss Carlsbad’s must-see holiday attraction. Made of more than 300 pounds of gingerbread dough, 400 pounds of sugar icing and 18 pounds of chocolate, Gingerbread Mountain Village is complete with Santa’s Workshop, Frosty’s Ski-Daddle Ski School, Snow Tube Rental, and Blitzen’s Ale and Spirits. Sat/Sun, All Day. Park Hyatt Aviara lobby. Free. All ages. Event Details.

Del Mar Holiday of Lights
What better way to spend Christmas Eve than touring the Del Mar Fairgrounds in your car — with the heat on, of course — viewing the largest animated drive-through light show on the West Coast? Check out amazing light displays that are organized by theme, from Candy Cane Lane to The Twelve Days of Christmas. Sat, 5:30 pm. Del Mar Fairgrounds. $14 per car. All Ages. Event Details.

South Bay

Musical Snowfall
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. San Diegans won’t ever experience an authentic White Christmas, but we can get in on the snowfall action on Christmas Eve! It might be a “pretend” snow, but the holidays are all imagination and spirit, right?! Don’t miss the last musical snowfall of the year. Sat, 6:00 pm. Village Walk at East Lake. Free. All ages. Event Details.
