This weekend there’s so much going on in the San Diego area that you’ll have no problem keeping the whole family entertained all weekend long. We have a summer luau and doggie street festival in San Diego, and an outdoor showing of Despicable Me in Escondido. Come out to celebrate summer island-style and bring the whole fam to participate in a Hawaiian luau complete with a conch shell announcement, Imu pig presentation, dinner buffet, fire dancers and Polynesian dancers. Jazz & Blues in the Park
As part of the Bird Park Summer Concert Series, Steph Johnson and her band will be playing husky blues and smooth jazz for audiences of all ages. Summer Surf Series
Bring your aspiring surf dudes and dudettes to watch both amateur and professional surfers ride some serious waves this weekend at the Revolt Summer Surf Series (RSSS) event. There will be beach games and a live DJ entertaining the crowds, along with dozens of surf companies showcasing the latest gear and equipment. Surf’s up! Sat., 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Free. All ages. Doggie Street Festival
Pack up your two and four-legged little ones and head down to the third annual Doggie Street Festival in Bayfront Park. The festival aims to promote public awareness and educate on issues of responsible dog adoption. If your family isn’t looking to adopt a furry friend, then come out anyways to this popular event to peruse the many vendors and participate in the family-friendly activities. “Despicable Me” in the Park
San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum is proud to be partnering with the Escondido History Center and Escondido Recreation to present the 2011 series of Movies in the Park. Navy Band Concert
La Jolla Concerts by the Sea showcases bands spanning several music genres and styles. This weekend, come see the Navy Band Southwest’s Showband. This 19-member ensemble prides itself in presenting authentic performances of the sounds of the big band era along with a variety of contemporary music. Be on the listen for a little Glenn Miller mixed with a little “Girl from Ipanema.” Concessions are located on site, and all proceeds go to support the free summer concert series at La Jolla Cove.
