Mid-summer is approaching (gasp!), so get out there and make the most of it. From savoring the day by stopping to smell (and pick) the flowers at Hana Field to enjoying a family dance sesh at the marine band’s summer concert in Little Italy, read on to see how to take advantage of those fleeting summer days this weekend.
Sunflower Picking at Hana Field
Enjoy acres and acres of beautiful sunflowers, zinnias, herbs and more at Hana Field by Tanaka Farms. Snap some beautiful photos and snip a few flowers to bring home with you. Bring your own cutting utensils (sunflowers have very thick stems, so bring a sharp cutter or serrated knife) and gardening gloves (especially if you have sensitive skin). All children must remain close to their parent/guardian at all times. Wear closed-toe shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty and long pants or long socks. Also, bees love sunflowers, so if you have an allergy, beware that there will be many bees on the premises. . Event details.
The Wonder Sound
Drawing influence from tree houses, canyons at night, sacred plants, silhouetted mountain ranges in the distance, animals that have never been seen, imaginary places and the human condition, The Wonder Sound at The New Children’s Museum is an entirely new and complex culture that blends fact and fiction, the tangible and the ephemeral. It is a work of art that you physically enter into and discover. July 31st is the last day of the installation, so don’t miss it. Sat. Event details.
Make It Yourself
Class activities span visual art, dance, and writing and offer the opportunity for participants to engage in a planned, curated activity or simply pick up pen and paper and create without a plan. These classes are truly multi-generational. All ages and all abilities are welcome. Classes are held outside in the garden. Sat. Event details.
Rooftop Cinema: Coco
Watch a screening of Coco and take a photo on a specially designed set inspired by the film alongside a life-sized Miguel! Then, the whole family can enjoy a movie night under the stars. Be sure to select the “Kids” ticket for anyone 12-and-under, and as always, we suggest checking out the film’s rating before making plans, as ratings will vary. PLEASE NOTE: Headphones are one size, so we recommend bringing children ages 5 and up to ensure they’re able to tune into the film. Sun. Event details.
