Roald Dahl’s amazing tale is now San Diego’s golden ticket! It’s the perfect recipe for a delectable treat: songs from the original film, including “Pure Imagination,” “The Candy Man,” and “I’ve Got a Golden Ticket,” alongside a toe-tapping and ear-tickling new score from the songwriters of Hairspray. Willy Wonka is opening his marvelous and mysterious chocolate factory… to a lucky few. Fiesta del Sol
Fun, danceable tunes fill the air at Fiesta del Sol in Solana Beach as an amazing line-up of performers and bands take the stage. Little ones can let loose in the KidsZone with rides, games, hands-on activities, bounce house, face painter and more. There will be food available for purchase from over 20 vendors and over 200 vendors to shop. On Sunday morning from 7:30-10:30 a.m. local firefighters host a pancake breakfast. Sat. & Sun. Scripps Ranch

Lion King Jr.
Join the fun as 47 local youth performers from Scripps Theatre Arts transport you to the African savannah as they journey from Pride Rock to the jungle and back again, in this fun coming-of-age tale. The show begins with the welcoming of the newborn cub of King Mufasa and Queen Sarabi and ends as the Circle of Life continues when a grown-up Simba takes his place as king. Enjoy favorites like “Hakuna Matata” and be captivated by songs directly from the Broadway show, like “Shadowland.” Thanks to the musical geniuses Tim Rice and Elton John, you’ll be humming tunes for days. Fri.-Sun. Seadragons & Seahorses Exhibit at Birch Aquarium
Check out Seadragons & Seahorses, a new permanent exhibition at Birch Aquarium that features Weedy and Leafy Seadragons, as well as several species of seahorses and pipefish. The centerpiece of the exhibition is one of the largest seadragon habitats in the world. Seadragons & Seahorses immerses aquarium guests into the underwater lives of seahorses and seadragons, while giving a peek into the work Birch Aquarium’s renowned Husbandry Team is doing to ensure that these species survive into the future. Saint Archer Celebrates 6th Anniversary
San Diego based Saint Archer Brewing Company is turning six, and the brewery is celebrating with a free party to honor their sixth anniversary. Taking place at the brewery’s original Miramar location, the family-friendly event will feature live music from headliner King Tuff, San Diego locals The Schizophonics and The Anodynes. Guests can also enjoy food trucks, a kid’s area and brewery tours. Making its debut at the party, the 6th anniversary specialty beer is a Hazy Rye with Galaxy Hops IPA, that will be exclusively available on draft at the anniversary party. San Diego River Days Butterfly Garden
Come join the Santee Historical Society for San Diego River Days, a celebration of our river and its incredible biodiversity. Help plant a monarch butterfly garden (participants should bring a pair of gloves), meet a wild animal up close with Project Wildlife, enjoy hands-on activities for kids, learn information on gardening, composting and sustainable living and tour the historic Santee Barn. Super Kids Hero Fun Run
Your kids can be superheroes for a day at this fun run for little ones ages 2-7. This event raises money for Gently Hugged. The $30 entry fee includes a performance by Hullabaloo, family yoga by Mello Yoga, face painting, giant bubbles, arts and crafts, a selfie station, superhero cape, participation medal, goodie bag and snack bar. Parents/caregivers are free and additional tickets for siblings outside the 2-7 age range who would like to participate in activities other than the Fun Run are available for $12 (includes everything except goodie bag with participation medal and superhero cape).
