Family Moon Festival
Join the San Diego Chinese Historical Museum in celebrating the brightest full moon of the year. Not only will you learn more about Chinese culture, but you’ll also enjoy sweet treats while you do it. You’ll watch mooncake making demonstrations and children will have a chance to make their own mooncakes. Festivities in the museum garden include Chinese arts and crafts, a calligraphy demonstration and, of course, a chance to sample various types of mooncake. Yum-o! California Coastal Cleanup Event
Spend your Saturday morning taking care of Mother Earth and teaching your kids about environmental responsibility. The California Coastal Cleanup is a volunteer event for all ages. In 2009, more than 10,000 volunteers removed over 174,000 pounds of debris in one morning from San Diego beaches, bays, canyons and open space areas. Help make it happen this year. Carlsbad

Blockade screening
Your kids might not believe it, but you know there was life – once upon a time – without 3D and computer animation. Introduce them at this year’s Leo Carrillo Film Festival. Hit Leo Carrillo Ranch Park in Carlsbad to see a special screening of “Blockade.” Arrive early to snag a great seat and bring low back chairs, a to-go dinner, and blankets. Popcorn, candy, ice cream and soda are all available to buy on site and the proceeds will go to the Carrillo Ranch Trust Fund. Fri., 6:00 pm. Free. All ages. Event Details.

Hullabaloo Family Arts Festival
It’s party time…kids’ style. Check out this one-day celebration of music, art, dance and storytelling for kids. The four-hour family-friendly event will take place on the grounds of the historic Bernardo Winery in Rancho Bernardo. But remember: We said kids’ event.
