Red Tricycle: Your community recently voted you “Most Awesome Magical Music Class in SoCal” – what do your customers value most about your business?
Songbirds Music: The high quality programs we offer taught by nurturing and qualified teachers.

RT: What do you want people to know about your business that they don’t already know?
SM: Songbirds Music is more than just music classes and singing. It is also about making connections, socializing, bonding, and forming a community while learning and having fun.

RT: How did your business get started and what was the motivation?
SM: After stepping away from being a classroom teacher and into motherhood, I wanted to do something where I could have flexibility to raise my family while working and doing something I love. Working with children, singing, dancing, and teaching are all passions of mine and with my company I still get to teach and do what I love. I can even take my children to work with me.

SM: 1. Coffee or tea if I need vocal support

RT: What is the most awesome thing a customer has ever done for you?
SM: One parent left a glowing review and told their playgroups and preschool about Songbirds Music. Many families enrolled in classes based on her referral.

RT: What is your biggest pet peeve as a business owner?
SM: Disrespectful customers.

RT: How do you keep your stress levels down?
SM: Singing and dancing Flamenco.

RT: What’s your secret superhero power as a business owner?
SM: Patience.

RT: Tell us, what is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received (as a parent or business owner)?
SM: People are first, paper is second.

RT: How about the worst piece of advice you’ve ever received?
SM: Don’t bother trying to make this work.
