Have you started your spring cleaning yet? If you’re like most parents, your kids probably have more than their share of books they’ve outgrown just sitting on bookshelves waiting to find new homes. Why not take the month of April to teach your kids a lesson in spring cleaning and donating to those in need? This month it’s as simple as going to your local Starbucks to drop off the books.
Words Alive, a San Diego non-profit that provides highly enriched literacy curriculum programs to Child Development Centers and Head Start Program sites throughout the county, is partnering with Starbucks to to host a county-wide book drive. Book bins will be available at all 180 Starbucks locations throughout San Diego from April 1 – April 30.
The book drive aims to collect 3,000 new and gently used books that will be used to create lending libraries at Early Childhood Education programs sites, giving San Diego’s most vulnerable family’s better access to quality reading materials.
A Plan for Cleaning and Donating
Schedule 15 – 30 minutes with your kids to go through the bookshelves together. Find a neighborhood Starbucks location and then have the kiddos place them into the book bins. They will feel great about donating to a worthy cause, and you will have accomplished some spring cleaning. It’s a win-win for your family and the community!
