When you see this totally sweet school supply hack you are going to wish that you had thought of it. We all want our kiddos to know just how much we love and support them. Well, one mama put these wishes into words—on her child’s pencils!
Teacher Amanda Cox recently posted an amazingly adorable story on her Facebook page. Cox wrote, “Today I was running low on pencils so I asked all of my kids to pull out any of my pencils that they had in their desks.” Okay, seems pretty simple. But what happened next totally floored the teacher.
One of the children asked Cox if he could keep his pencils. That is, the pencils his mom gave him. Cox said yes, but the little boy reconsidered and offered to share his stash. As Cox started sharpening the pencils she noticed each one had a sentence written on it. The words written on the pencils weren’t just any old words—they had major meaning.
According to Cox, the pencils had affirmations such as, “You are so talented”, “This will be a great year”, “You are creative”, “Never give up”, “You are a math whiz”, “You are the best”, “I am proud of you”, “You will change the world” and of course, “I love you.” Awww!
Cox explained, “Thanks to his mom he was reminded of his self worth and wanted to share the same feeling with his classmates. THESE are the things that we should be reminding our kids (both parents AND teachers).” The teacher went on to add, “Even if you think it is cheesy or you don’t have enough time or that you will have little impact, remember that you may be the only one telling and reminding them these things and EVERY kid needs to know their value.”
Now that’s more than just a hack—it’s a little slice of awesomeness that we should all try!
