In honor of Independence Day, we’ve taken a page from your kid’s classroom and rounded up the best spots in America for learning about the land of the free and the brave. From remembering the Alamo to California’s gold rush, here are nine places that will help you and your crew make a little history of your own.

The Liberty Bell – Philadelphia, Pa

It’s probably one of the most famous symbols of American history, so your kids are bound to get a kick out of the real Liberty Bell that hung in what’s now Independence Hall in Philadelphia. The bell is encased in glass, but it’s easy to see the famous crack and inscriptions that have inspired ground-breaking groups such as revolutionaries, abolitionists and suffragettes.

Good to know: The Liberty Bell is in the National Park system and admission is free!
