This epic museum has four floors of natural science halls and exhibits, a Planetarium, a Butterfly Center, and a Giant Screen Theatre. Cockrell Butterfly Center

Located in the Houston Museum of Natural Science complex, the Butterfly Center is worth a visit all on its own. The three-story “rainforest” has waterfalls, tropical plants, and a crazy amount of butterflies. Pro tip: wear a brightly colored shirt, and the butterflies may land on you!

Houston Zoo

The Houston Zoo is known as one of the best in the United States, housing over 6,000 animals from 900 species. Conservation is a major priority for the zoo, and they do all they can for the health and happiness of all the animals. Space Center Houston

Mini Astronauts will flip over the 400+ space artifacts, exhibits, and theaters at the Space Center Houston museum. Lone Star Flight Museum

If space flight isn’t their thing, would-be pilots will find themselves right at home at the Lone Star Flight Museum. Houston Fire Museum

This incredibly kid-friendly museum is housed in the 1899 Fire Station Number 7 and provides a plethora of pint-sized fun. From activities and public events to ever-changing exhibits, there’s a lot to keep kids entertained. It’s definitely worth the cost, but you can also get in for free on their Free Play Day, which is the second Saturday of each month from 12 pm to 4 pm.

Houston Arboretum & Nature Center

Known by locals as “an Oasis in the city,” this 155-acre sanctuary provides kid-friendly walking trails and education about the natural environment.
