However you get there, chances are at some point you’re going to need a car. Here’s one easy tip: To save money on gas, drive the speed limit. Speeding will get you there more quickly, but it reduces your mileage and, thus, lands you at the pump more often. If you need to rent a car, see if you can do it away from the airport. Last Thanksgiving, by renting a minivan in suburban Stamford, Conn., rather than at the White Plains, N.Y., airport or New York's JFK, we saved $800 on our rental.
