Upon first glance, University Village offers a cool collection of shops and dining spots with plenty of adult-sized fun. But look closer, and you’ll be amazed to discover a whole side of U. Village that’s geared to little ones.

When it comes to kids clothing and shoes, you can’t beat stores like Land of Nod, Hanna Andersson and Sole Food. This spring, they’ll be joined by Crew Cuts, the fab junior version of J. Crew. For some creative playtime, Paint The Town, a ceramics painting studio, offers fun diversion (check their calendar for pizza parties). And for the ultimate multitasking feat of shopping and play time, head to Kids Club, where you can peruse the kids clothing while the kids play with the train set or dollhouse. (There’s even a covered play area just outside, where they’ll love to climb on the sculptures.) In the matter of noshing, there are many routes to take, from tart and creamy yogurt at Red Mango to a cupcake at Trophy Cupcakes (opening this spring), a burger and shake at Johnny Rocket’s or yummy rolls and miso soup at Blue C. Sushi. (Don’t forget to hit The Ram on Mondays, where kids meals are a buck.)

This spring brings a new weekly event, Village Play Days, where mommy-and-me activities will be sponsored by various merchants. You’ll walk away with coupons for free meals or discounts to stores, a perk that will have you and the kids coming back to the U. Village again and again.
