December 15 is National Ugly Holiday Sweater Day. Umm yes, that’s right. There actually is a day devoted to ugly holiday sweaters. So get yours out, put it on and show it off with pride. Oh, and if you’re traveling on Alaska Airlines you’ll get a special travel perk.

The lines, the wait, the stress. Ugh. Holiday travel isn’t easy — especially with kids in tow. But what if you could avoid some of the way-too-long wait times when boarding? Well, now you can. That is, now you can if you are flying on Alaska Airlines.

So what does waiting to board a plane have to do with an ugly holiday sweater? If you fly Alaska Airlines, Virgin America or Horizon Air on National Ugly Holiday Sweater Day (Fri., Dec. 15), and you wear an ugly holiday sweater, you get to board early.

What’s up with this kind of kooky, but totally cool, holiday promotion? Natalie Bowman, Managing Director of Marketing and Advertising at Alaska Airlines said (in a press release), “Travel during the holidays can be stressful for guests, especially those who do not travel often. This fun promotion not only allows guests to board early on that day, but gives people another opportunity to dust off that ugly holiday sweater hanging in the back of their closet.”
