Anna Banana knows their stuff when it comes to teaching exciting art and craft classes to children. Anne Freeman, (yes the Anne!) recently took the time to give us a back stage look at what makes them Totally Awesome.
Red Tricycle: Congrats! Your community recently voted you the Most Awesome Art Class in Washington DC. What do your customers value most about your business?
Anne: I believe that the love of what I do, teaching art to children, shows in the joy of making art at Anna Banana. The kids are happy, creative and safe in my studio.
RT: What do you want people to know about your business that they don’t already know?
Anne: I was an art dealer for 20 years in Washington before opening Anna Banana.
RT: How did your business get started and what was the motivation?
Anne: I left my job as an art dealer and needed to find something new that could fulfill my creative need and love of children. I found a space that was just perfect for an art studio so that moved the process along. I came up with the name Anna Banana which I thought would be catchy for the kids to say.
RT: Tell us, what do you start your morning with: 1. coffee 2. tea 3. mimosa 4. water 5. all of the above.
Anne: I start my day with cold iced tea, even in the winter!
RT: What is the most awesome thing a customer has ever done for you?
Anne: Several children and parents have hand written heartfelt notes thanking me for teaching them.
RT: What is your biggest pet peeve as a business owner?
RT: How you keep your stress levels down?
Anne: I love walking in nature and doing crossword puzzles.
RT: What’s your secret superhero power as a business owner?
Anne: Youthful energy and laughter!
RT: Tell us, what is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received (as a parent or business owner)?
Anne: One thing at a time. Keep focused and persevere!
RT: How about the worst piece of advice you’ve ever gotten.
Anne: That’s not gonna work!
