From the first time you say goodbye to your tiny tots as they head to preschool to the day you help your almost-adult move into their dorm, it can feel like years have passed in an instant. One kid managed to document just how quickly that time flies in one single, emotional tweet.
After sharing this sweet father and son moment, the post by Charles Brockman III, an incoming freshman at Mississippi State, went viral. As Brockman later shared in an interview with PEOPLE, his dad had been walking or driving him to school almost every day since the first picture was taken. “I just wanted to post that picture to thank my dad for always being there during everything we went through,” Brockman explained.
Taking those back-to-school pictures was a tradition in the Brockman family. They would always stop at the school entrance and snap a family photo, even when he became more self-conscious of who might be watching. “Even if it was a little embarrassing, I still did it because it was a good tradition,” he explained. The post has inspired all kinds of praise for Brockman’s dedicated dad, and it’s clear Brockman is grateful for the wonderful relationship with his parents. “Don’t take anything for granted with them. Appreciate your parents, while they’re here,” he said.
