Feel rushed an tense before your day is even started? Wake up earlier tomorrow—possibly a lot earlier. How much time do you really need to be fully ready to go before your kids wake up?

This is the only time I will tell you to sacrifice sleep in the service of happiness, although it is, of course, better if you can also hit the sack earlier the night before, too.

Once I stopped deluding myself about how much time it takes me to get ready (I think I should be able to shower in 5 minutes, but…) and built in more time for myself, mornings got MUCH easier.  I’d really like it if my kids would just get ready when I do, but rare is the family where kids are totally independent in the mornings.  My kids do make their own breakfast and dress themselves, but they still need me to keep them on track.

One more (obvious) thing: even if it is the last thing you want to do, mornings are easier when all the prep is finished the night before.  Have kids make their lunches and pack their back packs during dinnertime clean-up.
