Pig: Social Fun is #1!

Born in: 2007, 1995, 1983, 1971

Luck: People born in the year of the Pig are generous, compassionate and easy going, which makes them excellent pals. Pigs are creative thinkers while Roosters are all about the real world: kids born in the Year of the Pig can expect 2017 to be a pretty balanced year. Social interaction will be plentiful—be on the lookout for loads of party invites! Diligent Piggie will work hard this year, so it’s up to parents to indulge them in a treat now and again.

Advice: Family interaction is encouraged, so be sure to plan plenty of day trips and fun outings on Pig’s lucky days: the 17th and 24th of each month.

Year of the Rat: Stay One Step Ahead

Born in: 2008, 1996, 1984, 1972, 1960

Luck: People born in the year of the Rat are smart, resourceful, kind, smart and quick witted. The Rooster and the Rat don’t always see eye-to-eye, so Rat should be cautious in 2017. The number three will add some good luck, but be careful of health while away from home.

Advice: It would be wise to make an investment early in the year. Consider a new class or membership for your studious, creative little Rat!

Year of the Ox: The Best Year Ever

Born in: 2009, 1997, 1985, 1973, 1961

Luck: People born in the year of the Ox are diligent, determined, strong and dependable. 2017 is a blessed year for Ox, as the Rooster and Ox are best buddies. It’s a good year for a career, too, so be on the lookout for your little Ox to bring home great grades.

Advice: It is a wonderful year for energy, health, family, and a good year for money. The sky’s the limit for Ox, so encourage your hard workers to get out and explore.

Tiger: Be Patient

Born in: 2010, 1998, 1986, 1974, 1962

Luck: Kids born in the year of the Tiger are brave, self-confident and competitive. New friends are on the horizon (a new playgroup perhaps?), but watch out for bad colds and flu early in the new year. One, three, and four are Tiger’s lucky numbers, and blue and orange are her lucky colors, so wear those hues often out to balance any tricky luck.

Advice: Since Tigers are still recovering from tricky tangles in the Year of the Monkey, it is wise to be cautious in new ventures.

Rabbit: It’s Gonna Be a Long Year

Born in: 2011, 1999, 1987, 1975, 1963

Luck: People born in the year of the Rabbit are gentle, quiet, responsible and elegant. Rabbits can expect challenges this year because they are Rooster’s exact opposite. Take extra health precautions to avoid a prolonged sickness. Keep lucky numbers three, four and six, and lucky flower jasmine nearby.

Advice: This is a good year to host friends at home, join a new club, or find friends that share the same interests. Here are a few awesome afterschool programs to give you inspiration.

Dragon: A Lucky Star Shines (Again)

Born in: 2012, 2000, 1988, 1976, 1964

Luck: People born in the year of the Dragon are intelligent, enthusiastic, hardworking and ambitious. Dragons are clever and capable, just like Rooster, so luck is on your side again in 2017. When it comes to friendship, old buddies will hang around and new friends will be showing up!

Advice: This is a good year to expand on a skill set, so drop a little cash for that music lesson or STEM workshop without hesitation.

Snake: Keep a Low Profile

Born in: 2013, 2001, 1989, 1977, 1965

Luck: Littlessssssss born in the year of the Snake are intuitive, enigmatic and wise. Even though Rooster totally digs Snake and the two are very compatible, 2017 is a year of mixed fortune. It is a good year for Snakes to shed their skin and try something new, and it’s a good year for friends, but it’s also a year for keeping a low profile.

Advice: This is not a good year for health, so be sure to avoid dangerous sports like mountain climbing and surfing. May we suggest a nice urban hike instead?

Horse: Slow And Steady Wins

Born in: 2014, 2002, 1990, 1978, 1966

Luck: People born in the year of the Horse are animated, active and energetic. Horse and Rooster get along okay, and besides a few bumps in the road, 2017 will be a good year overall—if Horses slow down, work hard and pay attention. This is a good year for Horses to be problem-solvers too, so try to let your little ones figure stuff out on their own before jumping in to help.

Advice: It’s also a good year for unexpected travel, so those lucky kids with Horse parents may be able to convince them to spring for special vacation or extra visit to Disneyland!

Sheep: Think Before You Speak

Born in: 2015, 2003, 1991, 1979, 1967

Luck: Small Sheep are kind-hearted, shy, sympathetic and have a strong sense of justice. Rooster and Sheep like to poke and prod one another, so this year will be filled with ups and downs: Little Sheep should think before they speak, and play their cards close to their chest. Exercise and a healthy diet are recommended (less screen time and fewer pizza nights?). Kids born in the Year of the Sheep should keep lucky colors red and yellow, and numbers four and eight in their sights.

Advice: Hard work is ahead, but it’ll pay off, so that LEGO universe your kid wants to build? It’s worth the effort. Here are the best LEGO books to help your builders get started.

Monkey: The Party Is Over

Born in: 2016, 2004, 1992, 1980, 1968

Luck: People born in the year of the Monkey are mischievous, clever, witty and a little naughty. Monkeys and Roosters get along just fine, but in 2017 the party is over for fun-loving Monkeys. Hard work and steady growth is on the horizon. Be on the lookout for illness early in the year—especially stomach bugs—but enjoy ample health in the months to follow. Being stressed over too many activities and projects is a possibility, so parents should take care not to over-schedule their little monkeys.

Advice: Kids should concentrate on the things that will bring them luck: yellow, the numbers one and nine, and heading Southeast (Wild West vacation, anyone?)

Rooster: It’s Not Your Year

Born in: 2017, 2005, 1993, 1981, 1969

Luck: Little crowing Roosters are observant, courageous, talkative and outspoken. Birth signs are the most unlucky 12-year cycle, and Roosters are no exception. Lucky days include the fourth or 26th day of any Lunar month, so save big stuff—like birthday parties—for those days.

Advice: Little roosters will work very hard with not a lot of results, but will have luck with creative ventures, so go ahead and clear off that space on the fridge for some award-winning art.

Dog: A Creative Year

Born in: 2006, 1994, 1982, 1970

Luck: Tots born in the year of the Dog are honest, kind, prudent, loyal and sincere. It’s an almost perfectly easy year for the good natured Dog, however, splurging on something big is not advised. Your little Dog needs to be a little prudent and save his pennies in the piggy bank. Dogs also need to take care not to be bogged down by tons of projects, and to stay on course (one LEGO set at at time, please).

Advice: Sleep is super important this year, so make sure your little pups take plenty of naps and maintain an early bedtime.
