Fiercely fresh and fashion-forward aren’t words that usually come to mind when the subject is leggings for littles.  But a new LA line from new LA parents, called Chaboukie, is all that and a second pair of leggings.  That’s right – they follow the model that TOMS shoes popularized where when you buy one, they give one.  So now when you outfit your toddler in something that combines cute and cool, stylish and super soft, you’re also being a good citizen.

When husband and wife team Leah Piehl and Greg Bertens found it hard to track down comfy and stylish leggings for their adorable son, Auden, they were inspired to create their own brand.  Leah’s extensive experience in styling and costume design marries perfectly with Greg’s background as a web designer and musician to bring about endless ideas that feel crazy current and full of whimsy. The couple meticulously sources their own fabrics and stitch them by hand at their LA home (with help from a few elves). The results are sumptuously soft, expertly structured leggings (and some tops) that even grown-ups would go gaga over. The pair’s love affair with music and pop culture shines through in edgy designs like those featured in their new Shibori tie-dye line and playful legging monikers like “The Bowie” and “X-Ray Vision.”

But what really makes Chaboukie stand out in the pack is their incredible Buy One/Give One donation program. From the get-go, Leah and Greg dedicated themselves to making local community outreach an integral part of their business. Partnering with Baby2Baby, they generously donate a pair of leggings to a tot in need for every single pair that’s sold. They recently made their first donation of around 200 leggings – the most rewarding moment they say they’ve experienced so far.

Now, for any parents who may be wondering about the best way to incorporate Chaboukie’s statement leggings into their kiddo’s everyday wardrobe, Leah and Greg say to keep it simple. The jazzier the legging, the simpler the rest of the outfit should be. Neutrals are always a solid compliment and you can never go wrong with a super fly pair of kicks.

When Leah and Greg aren’t busy running their burgeoning business, they love exploring the city with their son, Auden. Fave hotspots include the fountains at Grand Park, Garfield Park in Northeast LA and the South Pasadena farmers market which they religiously try to hit up every Thursday.

Fit Tip: When in doubt, always order a size up as some leggings tend to run a bit small.
