Our reservoirs are full and the rains have stopped (fingers crossed), which means…time to get your kiddos out of the house! We’ve got just the spot: South Park. The city’s oldest public park, which re-opened in March, is newly renovated and the perfect springtime destination for picnicking and play dates. It may be small but don’t let that fool you—there’s plenty of inspiration here for the whole family.
You’ll find the park at 64 South Park Ave in SoMa. Lucky for families, the playground got more than just a facelift. In fact, the old wooden jungle gym is now a single, giant, curving structure, maybe giving a nod to the tech and design-related energy in the area. Expect your littles to be kept fully occupied with lots of opportunities to climb, slide and explore.
Romping around this new play area will surely build an appetite Good news: South Park has different plains of grassy areas and plenty of picnic tables for BYOL. Or for any foodie families, the park is bordered by (read: easy walking/strolling/no-whining distance) favorites like South Park Cafe, The American Grilled Cheese Kitchen, and Blue Bottle Coffee (okay, this one’s more for the parents than the kiddos).
San Francisco knows how to take care of its playdate constituency, because a couple more playground renovations are coming soon including the Helen Diller Playgrounds at the Civic Center and a new park on 17th and Folsom. That means: check back for the full report!
