Spring break is almost here and if you haven’t made plans yet, consider a getaway at a nearby Seattle hotel. At these spots, you can sleep in a cushy bed, chow down at some new-to-you restaurants and check out the nearby happenings. And if the hotel has a pool, then score one for the kids! Who needs crowded airports and Disneyland for spring break when you can live it up in luxe digs in the city and be home in time for Sunday night dinner?
Fairmont Olympic Hotel
The historic and grand Fairmont Olympic Hotel, with its Italian Renaissance architecture and fancy-schmancy décor, will wow your kiddos. Your little ones will feel quite special when they receive their activity bag at check-in, and find bathrobes in the room that’s just their size as well as no-tear shampoo and a selection of baby amenities. Their indoor pool is popular, and not just because all of the kickboards and pool toys are available for complimentary use.
Stay: Deluxe rooms and suites are available. Coffee maker, cot, crib, DVD player, microwave and mini fridge are available upon request. Check online for special offers, such as the Residents Rate and family packages.
Good Eats: The Fairmont’s Georgian Restaurant and Shuckers Oyster Bar restaurants, surprisingly enough, offer a healthy Kids’ Menu (kids 5 & under eat free, while 6-12-year-olds eat for half price off the regular menu). Sweet Iron Waffle Bar has waffles to please any kid, young and old. Benihana is a very cool cooking show-and-eat-around-the-grill experience, while Potbelly Sandwich Shop offers warm, grilled namesakes.
Walk To: The Seattle Public Library (check out the children’s section), Seattle Waterfront, Olympic Sculpture Park, Seattle Aquarium, Seattle Art Museum, Pike Place Market and the shopping district.
Don’t Miss: At check-in, kiddos receive a special number to call from the room, and soon a hotel staffer arrives with a silver tray bearing warm chocolate chip cookies and milk with “magic” straws. Talk about VIP service!
