There’s absolutely nothing fun about getting a splinter. The only thing less fun is trying to get your squirming tot to hold still long enough to pry the teeny, tiny sliver out. That is, if they’ll let you near it without howling in pain. One mom recently shared her genius hack for removing splinters and your kids might actually have fun with it. Yes, really.

UK mom Claire Bullen-Jones recently took to social media to share her genius trick for removing those pesky splinters pain-free, for kids and moms. “Kids got a splinter? Grab the calpol box and take out the syringe that comes with it!” she wrote in a post on Facebook that has since gone viral. In case you’re wondering, Calpol is a British pain reliever and fever reducer similar to Tylenol. As the post explains, simply take that plastic syringe that comes with the medication and place the tip over the splinter.

“Once you know your above it, make sure the syringe is touching the skin-and pull! Make sure there’s no gaps otherwise you won’t get it! The syringe will more than likely pull it out in the first go! Pain free, no tugging and pulling, and no little ones upset or scared at getting it out!” Bullen-Jones explains. She adds to make sure to pull quickly for it to work and if the splinter is a stubborn one, you might need to give it a go a few times before it comes out, but in the end no tears and no pain. You might even label it a fun experiment for your junior scientists.
