Once upon a time, gender reveals happened on the baby’s big birth day. It wasn’t until mama gave birth that the parents, or anyone else for that matter, knew about the pink or blue status. But things have changed. More specifically, parents have changed. And with modern diagnostic technology came second trimester gender reveals — and we don’t mean the ultrasound tech surprising the parents in the doctor’s office. We’re talking party-scale reveals that involve all sorts of cuteness.

Yeah, the whole burst a balloon to reveal pink or blue confetti and the pink or blue cupcake reveal have been done. And done. And done some more. So parents are on the search for a gender reveal that isn’t the same ol’, same ol’.

That’s exactly what Molli Van Arsdalen Reber and Dallen Reber did. They took a cue from Jimmy Fallon’s Egg Russian Roulette game, using the idea for their gender reveal.

Instead of popping a balloon, swinging at a piñata or digging into cake, these parents-to-be cracked eggs on their heads. Yes, eggs. With one dozen eggs (six pink and six blue) by their side, the pair took turns taking an egg and cracking it open. Oh, did we mention that only 11 of them were hardboiled? One egg was left raw. And the color of that egg indicated the baby’s gender.

As the pair got down to their final two eggs, one pink and one blue, they stopped to crack their eggs together. With a blue one in hand for Dallen and a pink one for Molli, they cracked away. And (drum roll, please) …it’s a girl! Even though she had egg on her face (literally), Molli was overjoyed to find out that she was having a girl.
