One of the most challenging parts of parenthood is figuring out what your family rules are and enforcing them. It can be hard to say no to certain things, but in the case of one mom’s list of “don’ts” for her daughter, you’ll have no problem enforcing every single one.

Mom, Toni Hammer, took to Facebook recently to write an open letter to her daughter about the things she doesn’t want her to do and the post quickly caught fire, going viral across the Internet and inspiring parents everywhere. The idea behind the advice, which starts with, “Don’t apologize when someone else bumps into you,” is that she doesn’t want her young daughter learning to push aside her own needs and feelings to please others or to try to fit in.

Her list is short and simple, but it speaks volumes. She concludes with, “Don’t apologize for being who you are. Be brave and bold and beautiful. Be unapologetically you.” The empowering post, which has been liked and shared thousands of times, speaks to more than just young girls, but grown women too, and the positive message is well worth a share.

What do you think of this list of don’ts? Would you give the same advice to your own daughter. Share your thoughts in the comments.
