Moms, let’s admit the truth we all know: McDonald’s is convenient and fun occasionally, but chicken McNuggets and a cheeseburger probably aren’t your go-to staples for a healthy family dinner. Still, kids love the idea of fries with a side of toys, which is why one mom’s McDonald’s Happy Meal hack offers the perfect compromise.
Bug & Babygirl blogger Betsy, a mom of two, recently shared a clever hack on her blog’s Facebook page that offers the perfect solution to those days when your kids are craving a Happy Meal, but you just can’t stand the idea of dishing up fried fast food. The post features a picture of two adorable homemade Happy Meals complete with paper wrapped burger and fries and dinosaur-shaped nuggets (the infamous boot-shaped McNugget’s got nothing on a T-Rex).
As the post explains, “When your kids are desperate for happy meals and you can’t bring yourself to eat McDonald’s, you have your husband grill a cheeseburger and put it in a shoebox.” Not shown in the photo are the already-loved Paw Patrol figures wrapped in Ziplock bags that the kids gleefully opened and played with, despite the fact that they already owned them. Talk about a major mom victory!
The next time your kids beg to hit the drive-thru dig up a shoebox and those small toys that were trapped under the couch cushions for a month and you might just be surprised how “happy” their homemade meal makes them.
